Without fanfare, Google has launched its third operating system known as Fuchsia OS.

The search giant began developing a new operating system way back in 2016. The OS generated some buzz for its use of Google’s own Zircon microkernel and when it was tested on the Honor Play smartphone.

For anyone interested in trying the new Fuchsia OS, Google has begun rolling it out on select Made by Google devices, such as the first-generation Nest Hub smart display. More devices, namely those that are part of a preview program, will receive upgrades to the new operating system over the coming months.

Appearance-wise, there’s not much that makes the Zircon-based Fuchsia different from the preceding Cast OS. Per reports, it seems Google only wants to push the system out to the public. Perhaps with promising data gathered from a consumer environment, Google may decide to use Fuchsia OS to power laptops, smartphones, and other devices.
